furniture :: skiing on a sofa
Jean-Marie Maussaud - Where have I heard that name before? Oh yeah, in my last post. I guess the designer gets around and his modern designs are definitely to my liking! From Cassina USA comes the Aspen sofa . Perhaps named "Aspen" because the backs taper like a ski slope? I love the contemporary curves but pity the poor person who ends up on the end with no back support.

lighting :: the brightest ideas
How brilliant are these? Three JUST COOL light fixtures speak volumes of how creative lighting can really be.

The lamps make it possible to create different lighting effects depending on the use of lens, color filter, glass and cover. Five different color filters are available to simulate different moods and emotions at will. Hey...My dining room is this color - these would really give it a look!

cool product :: futuristic shower tub
From Doobybrain: "The Rotator is a unique bathtub and shower combination that can transform from bathtub to shower in just one quick rotation on the wall. When the fatter end of the unit is at the bottom, a person can step inside and sit as if they were in a tub. Should the occupant want to take a shower, all he/she has to do is turn the unit “upside-down” and new water (not the water that you bathed in) comes flowing down from the water outlet.If you’re taking a bath and you’re finished, simply rotate the Rotator sideways and the water drains out of the tub with the help of gravity.
I bet cleaning it is a snap too. The Rotator - it's JUST COOL!

architecture :: house of veins
Actually this house isn't called House of Veins at all, but doesn't it look like it should be? Or Lace House, or ....
Leonardo Glass Cube is a glass-fronted brand pavilion in Bad Driburg, Germany designed by 3Deluxe . It was designed for the Glaskoch Corporation and completed in May of last year, to be used for informal meetings and corporate hospitality. It's unusual configuration and freeform graphic is brilliant. Talk about a stroke of architectural genius! This is it.

Interior - the color purple
Some call it Lilac, Iris, Mauve, Violet, Lavender, Heather, Aubergine, Grape, Plum, Eggplant, and Iris. But most of us call the color, PURPLE!

it can be dramatic
Growing up, my two daughters pined for purple rooms. I may have too, but that was way too long ago for me to remember! There's just something about purple. The French have a way with it, bringing out it's regal elegance and it's playful charm. Combined with tarnished gold and lively pinks or softened with whites and just a hint of palest green, it can be dramatic in either a traditionally formal or modern artsy interior.
It's no wonder that Pantone selected one of their purples, the color Blue Iris (PANTONE 18-3943) as the 2008 Color of the Year .

architecture - Thailand dream house with dreamy view

Perched about 200 feet above the sea,John Chadwick’s spacious living room has a wall of windows set above an infinity pool that makes it seem as if the water stretches all the way to Patong Beach, a popular night spot in Phucket, Thailand {how is that pronounced?} ;)

But seriously...when Greenwich Connecticut native,Chadwick switched jobs and ended up in Thailand , he fell in love with a property in Phucket and built a house there. It was all about the view and having his custom dream home be Frank Lloyd Wright inspired. "I told the architect I wanted to build a Frank Lloyd Wright house in Thailand," said Mr. Chadwick, a real estate executive. "I want strong horizontals. I want big, broad-shouldered spaces." And thats exactly what he got. The sprawling 7,500-square-foot house, sitting on a 12,350-square-foot lot, cost more than $2.5 million and was completed a few years ago. The top floor of the two-story house includes the living room, dining room, kitchen, master bedroom, office and patio. The bottom floor is designed for parties, with three more bedrooms, an exercise/game room and a massage room, all surrounding a pool equipped with lighting and sound systems.
What a place. What a view! It's JUST COOL!

fashion - time on our hands...
Just cool is this conceptual design of a watch worn on your thumbnail! To celebrate its 150th Anniversary and demonstrate an ongoing commitment to design and innovation, international watch brand Timex collaborated with Core77 to carry out a global design competition: Timex2154: THE FUTURE OF TIME that could highlight the state-of-the-art timekeeping pioneered by the company. This was just one of the runner ups.
The TX54 is a disposable timepiece worn on the user’s thumbnail. While its translucency makes it blend seamlessly with the hand, a selection of text color options and a glow feature that activates on command make it easy to read.
Friend says: Timekeeping goes off the wrist and onto the fingernail. Let’s see, when I fly to Europe, I can keep New York time on my left hand and London on the right!

it's weird and it's green...
The Amalia House started life as a request for a humble holiday cottage, but when Grid Architects got a hold of the project, it became a design of weird green angles and innovative functionality.
On the inside there are a host of functional details as well. The living room area contains two large window openings that frame the surrounding meadow and bring the feeling of "outside" in. From the kitchen/dining area, a simple spiral staircase provides access to the upper level; a bedroom, children's room, bath and shower room.
