Ever notice how "Fluffy" always finds the worst (for you) places to claim as her sleeping domain. Like your suitcase - when you're packing for a trip - there she is lounging out on your neatly folded clothes. So isn't this great? Pets :: Cat Cafe

Here's an interesting idea, one that I have never heard of or seen in the US. A cat cafe! It isn't a place for cats to go drink coffee and eat delicious pastries but a place for people to go and pet cats while enjoying a coffee break. This Cat Cafe pictured, is in Osaka Japan, and for Six hundred yen (about $5) you get all the cats you can pet for an hour. Upon entering the Cafe, you are sprayed with disinfectant and given slippers to put on. The "Cafe" is divided into two areas. One actually looks like a cafe where you sit at a table with your coffee, tea,pastries or whatever whilest the feline of your choice sits on your lap, keeping you company. The other room is where you go just to pet the cats. You can even buy tuna to entice the aloof kitties into paying YOU some attention and letting you pet them. It seems like a great idea for people in apartments where they aren't allowed pets - but to me, it sounds a little bizarre.
However, just like everything else in Japan, I'm sure Cat Cafe's will soon catch on in America, because...they're JUST COOL! (kinda)

architecture :: recycled pooch pad

Greypants Inc. is a "design firm" in Seattle that makes a difference through creative recycling. Take for instance this uncommon dog abode!

With old windows from behind the garage, basement scraps of wood,leftover cedar siding + one generous souvenir left by the road crew, they built a dog shelter and then auctioned  it off at an annual bark in the park to help aid mistreated animals. SWEET!

The people behind the company, Seth, Jon, and Jonathan are architects. Their mission:

Remember my early post about Poppy Petunia and her bad breath? Well summer is FINALLY upon us and guess what? Poppy's got doggy odor too! I don't know if it's her age or the season or what ,but I have been seriously noticing it lately - a cross between dead animal and old vacuum cleaner bag. Step back in time to October 1956 when this charming photo was taken of a man and his cat.  Henry Behrens, then the smallest man in the world dances with his pet cat in the doorway of his Worthing UK home. Measuring only 30 inches high, Mr Behrens made a living by travelling the world with Burton Lester's Midget Troupe.Whether his cat came along, is unknown. But aren't they so cute together? :)

medicine :: bullfrog jumps for joy!

25 year old Giant Bullfrog Brullie is jumping for joy, after having received the first bullfrog orthopedic surgery in the history of medicine. This rare species of frog was rushed to the animal hospital after being chomped by a hungry dog and the vet operated, putting an inch long steel pin in his leg.

"The vet was more used to saving cats and dogs and couldn't understand why I was so worried about a frog, but he eventually agreed to it.It was a nervous few hours while we waited for him to come round after the op, but he's healing up now and hobbling about the garden. The x-rays suggest he'll be as good as new." reported Anne Mearns, 62, a wildlife expert who found the mangled amphibian. She added, "This kind of giant bullfrog is only found in this part of the world and they are getting rarer." Now weeks later, Brullie is already on the hopping about at Anne's home near Johannesburg, South Africa.

Hopefully the giant bullfrog won't croak before he is able to hop off on his own into the wild. Bullfrog surgery - it's JUST COOL!

Poppy Petunia loves to be carried so I think she might be up for this interesting pet carrier! pets :: sheep is the family dog

Tinkerbell is no ordinary sheep. This wooley blanket on four legs was born too weak survive so the Magarotto family took her in and nursed her to health and she has now become a member their family. Although her sight was damaged and she suffered brain damage during birth, Tinks slowly got stronger and now joins their other pets on frequent walks.

Ms Magarotto said that, "...Tinks is now looking forward to her first Christmas with us, where she is more likely to be at the table than on it."
