presidential party :: no schlock affair

So am I getting this right? Because we Americans are on a budget, the cost of Obama's Inauguration will be a  measly  $160,000,000 . And the budget to redo the White House interior is a whopping $100,000??? Now everything makes sense.

According to the New York Daily News, which estimated the $160m for the big bash,  Carole Florman, spokeswoman for the joint congressional committee said,"We're always very budget conscious. But we're sending a message to the entire world about our peaceful transition of power, and you don't want it to look like a schlock affair. It needs to be appropriate to the magnitude of events that it is."

Right. Budget concious.

One thing that they are doing right is putting a $100,000 budget on redecorating the White House.Let's just see how far that gets designer elect Michael Smith . Not too far, I'll bet. It's nice to hear that he will be using some of my fav places for sources and inspiration though - like Wisteria, Anthropologie,Architectural Hardware, Urban Outfitters, Target, Pottery Barn - hey maybe even a Walmart pillow or two ;)

Hey Michael, take a look at these over at Wisteria .

Aren't they JUST COOL --- for the White House? Yeah...

decor :: Funky folksy domino

When it comes to decorative art, BIG will always catch your eye. Sure, I love my houses small, but I like my art big. I think oversized accessories always make a grand statement. Does that make me fickle? Naaaaaaaaaa..... just eclectic.

And a little JUST COOL!
Check out this oversized domino box at Wisteria. Handpainted and made of south pine lumber, it mimics the naive simplicity of 1920s folk art. A cool cache for all your tiny game pieces or whatever...
