pets :: dog gone art

For a piece of cheese, Jack Russell Terrier, Tillamook Cheddar from Brooklyn, New York will paint you a masterpiece! This paw-some pooch has been likened to artists Jackson Pollock and Cy Wembly and at the age of ten has been widely exhibited throughout the U.S. and Europe. At sales of over 2000 dollars for each of her paintings she ranks up there with other famed animal artists like chimp painter "Congo" who's paintings bring in over 8000 dollars.

What's this fluffy Picasso's technique? Her owner Bowman Hastie, explains:
"Tillie's primary process is a dynamic color transfer technique. In preparation for each of her works, her assistants assemble a touch-sensitive recording device by affixing pigment-coated vellum to a sheet of lithograph paper backed by mat board. The artist takes the prepared "canvas" in her mouth and brings it to her workspace. Working on the outside surface, she applies pressure with teeth and claws in a methodic ritual marked by dramatic shifts in tempo and intensity. The resultant sharp and sweeping intersecting lines complement the artist's delicate paw prints and subtle tongue impressions, composing an expressionistic image that is revealed on the paper beneath when she is finished. She works with shocking intensity, sometimes to the point of destroying her creations. "

When asked if Tillie enjoys exhibiting at shows, Bowman replied, " She typically hangs around the cheese table!" which makes sense since Tillie was named after her favorite brand of cheddar.

Tillamook Cheddar - the cheese AND the dog painter are JUST COOL!

art :: drawing in his sleep

Lee Hadwin has no artistic talent at all in fact  he can't draw worth beans . When he is awake that is. But send him to bed and you might find him walking in his sleep a few hours later, drawing expertly rendered masterpieces. At night this nurse by day  becomes a "sleepwalking artist" producing amazing artwork, that he has no recollection of having done when he awakens in the morning!

His sleepwalking began when he was only four years old and later in his teen years the drawing obsession took over and his nocturnal talent blossomed. Once staying over at a friend's house, he covered the kitchen walls with doodles in his sleep, an embarrassing discovery at breakfast time the next day. Read more about this  odd sleepwalking artist over at daily mail. He is JUST COOL!

art:: toilet paper faces

I bet just about every frugal person thinks about what they can do with empty toilet paper rolls. Well, here's what. Use them to make head sculptures.

toilet-paper-loudreams
Jacquet Fritz Junior does it, and does it well too! From these lowly brown cardboard tubes emerge gnarly faces full of life and expression. These paper sculptures are JUST COOL, aren't they? (Makes me want to go into the bathroom and spin all the paper off the roll so I can try one! )

food :: a toast to art

Breakfast isn't breakfast anymore when Columbian Artist, Ximena Escobar gets her hands on it. Here she embroiders, paints and sews collages on whole wheat toast. The talented artist has been known to play with experiment with other food too, screen-printing with milk and dark chocolate over paper, bread, fabric and walls.

And fancy this tablecloth! It's sewn from used teabags!

Clever girl , that Ximena! And JUST COOL!

art :: rorschach inkblot painting

Here's a creative take on that oh so serious Rorschach inkblot test that psychologists use to examine the personality characteristics and emotional functioning of their patients.

Talented artist L. Filipe dos Santos takes a watercolor ink blot image and uses his imagination along with pen and ink,to transform it into something beautiful! I've had fun doing this with abstract painted shapes before- it's not only challenging but a great brain exercise. Here's one I did a few years ago. First I scribbled some undefined shapes on the canvas, painted them in - and then detailed them into something...bizarre...

I think the shrinks might classify me as loco, but heck, all artists are a little mad...

art:: dillusional beauty

Dion Hitchings' art is raw, colorful and fantastic. Bright colors, twisted faces and spirographed daisy circles make his paintings dance on canvas! This St. Louis born, New Jersey-ite has been around the block when it comes to art, working in the design field as art director and fashion illustrator for such names as Marshall Fields, Conde Nast, Saks Fifth Avenue and Avon.  But his direction has changed over the past few years, and now he works for himself (shouldn't everybody?), happily and prolifically producing these beauties.

He's definitely  found his niche in the world of RAW ART - and in book illustration -
check out The B Book - very cute!
I love raw art - It's JUST COOL!

music :: the coolest music you'll ever hear

Where else but in a land of ice and snow would an amazing concept like "ice music" come from?

All Ice Records is a Norwegian independent record company that was started in 2005. It's musicians / ice sculptors carve their instruments from blocks of ice they find lying around and then hold concerts at such events as Icefestival at Geilo, Norway.

The resonating sound is an interesting one - like hollow, haunting windchimes . Check out more about this interesting music in the video below that tells the story of the Geilo Ice Music Festival and the extraordinary artists that make it happen. In seven days ice is transformed into a stage and musical instruments are created: a guitar, didgeridoo, Norwegian horns, Brazilian Udus and Guiros. The festival culminates in an outdoor, mountaintop concert under the first full moon of the new year.

I don't know about you, but I'm off to put on a sweater. Its cold in here!
Ice music - its naturally JUST COOL.

...out of polymer clay.

The Canadian Artist sculpts her exquisitely detailed tiny tots from polymer clay, which is then cured to a hard finish. She paints them to add realism, then adds "hair" made from English mohair.

art - painted by hand

It's a bird, its a plane... no, really...it's a hand!

The creator of these amazing and realistic works of art is hand painter, artist GUIDO DANIELE. Yes, amazingly enough, they are painted on hands and with such meticulous attention to detail - from every tiny hair in the fur, to the sparkling glint in each eye, that these animals seem to take on a life all their own. Italian born Danielle began this unusual mode of painting back in 1972 and then in 1999 broadened his work to include "body painting" where he paints models for advertising , commercials, fashion events and exhibitions. See more of his work at his website GuidoDaniele.com

It's amazing! And JUST COOL
