lighting :: Herman Miller Lights Up For Breast Cancer Awareness

Even though National Breast Cancer Awareness Month has passed (it was back in October), it's still an issue big enough to warrant all the attention it can get! Herman Miller, the leading manufacturer of ergonomically designed office chairs and modern office furniture, has partnered with designer Yves Behar to create a special edition version of his award-winning Leaf™ Personal Light. This limited edition version of the Leaf is fashioned in a lovely pastel pink and each one is signed and numbered by the designer himself. This special light was designed in an effort to increase awareness and raise funds to benefit breast cancer research and treatment.

Using innovative LED technology, the Leaf Personal Light allows users to control the intensity and color by means of an intuitive set of controls. Perfect for both home and an office setting, the Leaf is super-sleek, adjustable and energy-efficient! On average, Leaf's LED lights consume approximately eight to nine watts of power, carry a lifespan up to 100,000 hours, and cut energy use by 40 percent compared to compact fluorescent bulbs. Additionally, by nature, LED lights are cool-burning so the light doesn't overheat! Developed in accordance with Herman Miller's "Design for the Environment (DfE) protocol, Leaf is manufactured sustainably using eco-friendly and recycled materials.

Swiss designer Yves Behar founded the design studio fuseproject who lists Birkenstock, Swarovski, Nike, Toshiba and Herman Miller amongst its vast array of top notch clients. His long list of awards includes the prestigious National Design Award from Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian National Design Museum, where his works are on permanent display.

While the price tag for this limited edition Leaf Personal Light is pretty steep, at around $530, it is all for a good cause! If you don't like the pink, you can also purchase the Leaf Personal Light in red, black, white, nickel and polished aluminum. The traditional model ranges in price from $499 to just over $500. Whether this lamp is in your price range or not, it's JUST COOL!
