Art :: your very own blue car christmas!

This year seems to have flown by so quickly, hasn't it? I can't believe I am already hearing Christmas music in all the stores and isles are filled with miles of Christmas decorations,gifts and more. Hey, I think I'll jump on the bandwagon and join them by doing a little Holiday promotion myself . But I promise, this is the last you'll here of me on my stuff this year. :)

It's that time again. Christmas is in the air! This painting was featured on the cover of last Christmas' NATURAL AWAKENINGS Magazine and I have received so many wonderful comments and requests on it that I am now offering it in my Vintagewarehouse shop on Etsy as this years special customizable painting to include your family, your pets and your house colors! Sure to make a unique and treasured addition to your home. Or order for a thoughtful and personalized gift for your friends and family on your Christmas list!
About this painting - "This nostalgic painting was inspired by many childhood Christmases spent at my Grandparents' cozy old victorian house in the Catskill Mountains in Upstate New York! That's our 1958 pink and blue Ford Station Wagon car but instead of driving to get the tree, we would actually trudge up onto the mountain and chop one down for the living room. Usually a lopsided scraggly "Charlie Brown" tree that looked beautiful once it was up and festooned with shimmery old fashioned glass ornaments, ropes of glass beads and dripping with silver tinsel. Underneath the tree Granny always had a little town of micah covered cardboard houses, a mirror "skating rink" and lead skating figures. Christmas time was always such a magical time for us up on Schunnemunk Mountain! Good memories!"

art :: new painting - castle on the hudson

Okay so I was inspired to paint another H R P when Bob Bedford asked me to contribute to Hudson Valley Wine Magazine. Soooooo...I painted this one last week. Wouldn't it be fun to live in the old days for just a day - cut off from the internet, tv, phone, cars, the other side of the world etc.,etc. Could we stand it for only just a day? I think so ...and maybe more ;)

food :: a toast to art

Breakfast isn't breakfast anymore when Columbian Artist, Ximena Escobar gets her hands on it. Here she embroiders, paints and sews collages on whole wheat toast. The talented artist has been known to play with experiment with other food too, screen-printing with milk and dark chocolate over paper, bread, fabric and walls.

And fancy this tablecloth! It's sewn from used teabags!

Clever girl , that Ximena! And JUST COOL!

iphone:: paint it!

I haven't tried my hand at painting on the IPhone yet but after seeing this cool art I will definitely start now. Remiscent of that old kindergarten activity, finger painting, (which I loved btw!) the BRUSHES app for IPhone and ipod touch allows you to turn your photos into very cool paintings. Here's some created by IPhone wiz, Jorge Colombo.

Watch the movie of how Jorge paints here. And hey, if I do get around to doing some iphone paintings myself, you will be the first to see them ;) Promise. IPhone painting - it's JUST COOL!

art :: rorschach inkblot painting

Here's a creative take on that oh so serious Rorschach inkblot test that psychologists use to examine the personality characteristics and emotional functioning of their patients.

Talented artist L. Filipe dos Santos takes a watercolor ink blot image and uses his imagination along with pen and ink,to transform it into something beautiful! I've had fun doing this with abstract painted shapes before- it's not only challenging but a great brain exercise. Here's one I did a few years ago. First I scribbled some undefined shapes on the canvas, painted them in - and then detailed them into something...bizarre...

I think the shrinks might classify me as loco, but heck, all artists are a little mad...

art :: phone painting

Your Iphone - that handy gadget that keeps you connected, has a ton of cool applications. Like the Brushes app. Check this out. These talented artists "fingerpainted" these wonderful digital compositions. The miniature digital paintings are done on-site, on a whim and on their IPhones. My, what nimble little fingers they must have! These are definitely JUST COOL!

art :: autumn fun

Sheesh, listening to the news these days is nothing but depressing! Too bad we couldn't flip back to another era when life was sweet, right? So yesterday I decided to focus on what's going on in the world that's good at the moment and it was something as simple as it being Autumn, my favorite season! Here in the Northeast, when you look out your window , the landscape is like a brilliant painting. The sunlight is just right and the trees are garbed in blazing colors.

The Adirondacks and the Vermont Green Mountains are absolutely breathtaking this time of year and the leaf watchers (no I didn't say baby lickers) appear out on the roads to see the blazing foliage. The air is crisp, the sky is blue , pumpkins are lined up on porches,kids are bundled up in heavy garb playing in the leaves, while mom and dad are raking (and reraking) them.Roadside stands suddenly appear with the apple cider, the donuts, the apples and pies and other fall goodies. It's a good time. Yesterday I got my paints out and did a little Autumn painting of all the things I love about Autumn. Put it up on eBay last night, so check it out!

Check out the original on eBay or order the print here.

Awwww....Autumn, it's JUST COOL... and crisp and my most favorite time of year. I wish it didn't fade so quickly!

interior :: rooms that will fool you

Felice Varini is a master illusionist when it comes to fooling the eye. At first you may think that his extraordinary paintings on interiors and exteriors are just a bunch of random lines and colors , but when viewed at just the right angle they magically transform into geometric concentric designs that will amaze you. Imagine seeing some of his work in real life and how these painted illusions are actually done!

Check out his seemingly random smattering of elements that, when viewed from a specific point in space, coalesce into a tangible planar element -in other words, they're JUST COOL!

art :: a dirty divinci

Scott Wade draws dirty pictures. Zooming through the dusty texas landscape in his blue and white mini cooper, he prepares the perfect canvas for his unusual dust art.

Everywhere he goes he draws an audience (no pun intended) - even in his grocery store parking lot. Check out the video and see more.

Dust art. It's grimey and its dirty, but someones gotta do it. Its Just cool!
