flooring :: a penny for your thoughts

What do you think about this awesome looking floor?Entirely made of copper pennies , you'll find it over at the Standard Grill in NY. If the place sounds e familiar, it's because I did a post about this uncommonly cool Hotel about a month ago. Of course since the Standard is anything but standard, the restaurant’s designers, Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch of New York-based design firm Roman and William went with thousands of glistening copper pennies for a spectacularly JUST COOL look.

Travel :: pipe dreams for real!

For those of you adventurists who aspire to weirdness in your travel accomodations, you'll appreciate this. A hotel that offers a good nights sleep in a concrete drain pipe.

Like comfy little cabins, the accommodations at Dasparkhotel in Austria, consist of three sections of big concrete drain pipe, with a very cool minimalist feel. Although you may feel like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle sleeping in the sewer, your tube will be very private, supplied with 220V power, double bed, skylight window, decorative wall art, a double door and even storage space. The main building located on site offers all the other amenities (including the bathroom ) and restaurants are only a walk away (or you can cook your own meals in the park) ! If you're already having pipe dreams just reading about it, you can book your "pipe" at Dasparkhotel's website here>>>>

I think I'll stick to a traditional comfy hotel room. But what a neat idea! - it's JUST COOL

travel :: a flying hotel!

How's this for first class flying accomodations? It's a flying hotel called the The Hotelicopter and is modeled after the Soviet-made Mil V-12, of which there were only two prototypes ever made.

I've always hated flying, with it's confined seating, cramped leg room and less than luxurious accoutrements. But who wouldn't love flying in this luxuriously appointed hotel on wings?!

"The Hotelicopter features 18 sterile looking yet luxuriously-appointed rooms for adrenaline junkies seeking a truly unique and memorable travel experience. Each soundproofed room is equipped with a queen-sized bed, fine linens, a mini-bar, coffee machine, wireless internet access, and all the luxurious appointments you'd expect from a flying five star hotel. Room service is available one hour after liftoff and prior to landing."  Book your flight now - The Hotelicopter is due to fly it's maiden voyage on June 26th. Price of air fare? Undisclosed.

travel :: hotel du petit moulin - paris chic!

http://lh6.ggpht.com/_WzmCESXRh1Y/Rvvb6fA1BLI/AAAAAAAACFE/ZkknHXO-4D0/IMG_5970.jpg

Leave it to designer Christian Lacroix to punch up the renovated interior of this once 17th century bakery with his colorful eccentric style. Hotel du Petit Moulon is a bargain for the wallet and eye candy for the senses when visiting Paris. CL was inspired by "the slightly twisted perspectives, the maze-like passageways on the different floors and the new functional areas which have been added repecting the "old Paris" style of the building."
The glitsy glam polka dot King went to town when he transformed each of its seventeen rooms into his signature fashion fantasy swathed with mod printed silks, velvets, linens and exotic murals in rainbow colors. There is no one style in this place - it runs the gamut from Baroque, and sci-fi to Scandinavian modern - heck, the hotel even has a polka dot staircase! And when you step through the door of this ancient pâtisserie , gone is the aroma of fresh baked baguettes, replaced by divinely scented aromatic candles. The seventeen luxury rooms include modern amenities such as air-conditioning, Wi-Fi access, a flat-screen television, a guest safe and a minibar.

travel :: a hotel worth licking

I thought the Ice Hotel was JUST COOL but the salty Hotel de Sal Playa may have it beat. Located near the famous Uyuni salt deposit in the southwestern part of the Bolivia, the Salt Hotel was built in 1993 to take advantage of all the tourists it draws to Uyani, (one of the world's largest salt deposits of its kind). So get this - the whole hotel is made entirely of salt. The walls are made of salt blocks held together with mortar made from (you guessed it!) salt and water. The fifteen room 'Salt Hotel' is so salty that even the beds, tables and chairs are made of salt and the floor is granulated salt too. Im getting all crusty thinking about it ;)

Don't lick the walls

Hotel de Sal Playa - Salt Hotel (9) 2

Hotel de Sal Playa - Salt Hotel (9) 5But wait, the fun doesn't stop there because this salty destination is also known for it's dramatic sunsets, giant cactuses, hot springs and sulphur pools, not to mention some amazing psychedelic lakes - a white lake made from borax, a red lake infested with red algae, a yellow lake due to sulphur concentrations, and blue one from the manganese.

Hey this place sounds JUST COOL! Now watch the video.

interior :: blue glam at nylo warwick

Looks like glam is here to stay. This glitsy interior for the hotel, Nylo in Warwick RI, has that sixties funkilicious vibe going on and I love it! Designed by Dupoux Design NYLO WARWICK is scheduled to open September 1rst.
Hey, that was yesterday!

The Warwick property will be a little different than its Texan sister. With New England's rivers and bays as its muse, this NYLO has a witty vibe that celebrates its locale. The bar takes design inspiration from fish gills. In the restaurant, chandeliers recall dry sea coral, and tables have Plexiglas tops with embedded sea sponges. In fact, NYLO is even calling this cool hotel "Soho-by-the-Sea". All it needs is an "in house" Mermaid!

Even better are the prices. Introductory rates are low at $89 a night on weekends and $119 a night during the week.

How about a weekend getaway at the NYLO? It's JUST COOL!
