Pets :: wooly and wonderful!

Wanta see something very cool? Amelia Santiago makes these endearing pet sculptures out of wool using a technique called needle felting. Each is individually sculpted as one would sculpt clay and each is one of a kind. Amelia takes custom orders for just about any kind of pet and works only from her clients photos - no patterns or premade forms at all. I love the character that each of these wonderful wooly little fellows exude!

Pets :: Cat Cafe

Here's an interesting idea, one that I have never heard of or seen in the US. A cat cafe! It isn't a place for cats to go drink coffee and eat delicious pastries but a place for people to go and pet cats while enjoying a coffee break. This Cat Cafe pictured, is in Osaka Japan, and for Six hundred yen (about $5) you get all the cats you can pet for an hour. Upon entering the Cafe, you are sprayed with disinfectant and given slippers to put on. The "Cafe" is divided into two areas. One actually looks like a cafe where you sit at a table with your coffee, tea,pastries or whatever whilest the feline of your choice sits on your lap, keeping you company. The other room is where you go just to pet the cats. You can even buy tuna to entice the aloof kitties into paying YOU some attention and letting you pet them. It seems like a great idea for people in apartments where they aren't allowed pets - but to me, it sounds a little bizarre.
However, just like everything else in Japan, I'm sure Cat Cafe's will soon catch on in America, because...they're JUST COOL! (kinda)

Pets :: colorful cats you won't believe!

Remember my post about dog do's gone bad (the dog painting lady) ? Well here's another bizarrity - painted cats! No, these aren't photo-shopped, they are the real deal. How do you feel about the idea of painting cats? I see it as just another art form and done with non toxic paints and with no objections from the cat , see nothing wrong with it. Sort of like dying your hair, wearing makeup or to the extreme, getting tattooed (these paints wash out so they aren't permanent.)

Cats are cute no matter how freaky they are. Like this adorable two faced feline who was born near Perth, Australia on November 19th.

Then of course there is the infamous Yoda the Cat who was born with four ears, found orphaned outside of a bar and lives in Chicago with his people, Ted and Valerie.

And have you seen a munchkin lately? This freaky cat breed has been around since the early 1900's. It's mark of distinction is it's short legs.

Pets :: Cat Cam and a cat's eye view

Cats have nine lives but with the cat cam there may be a possibility of ten. If you are one of those naughty people that lets Boots roam free around the dangerous wilds of your neighborhood then listen up. Cat cam is a cool idea for keeping tabs on your tabby. Kind of like a nanny cam for your cat, this clever card slides onto kitties collar and snaps away as your precocious cat checks out the great outdoors, or indoors as some of these photos show. It won't keep him free of disease or disgusting worms and other gross parasites but atleast you'll be in the know about where he's been and any shady characters he's been hanging out with.

In the market for the cat of your dreams? If money is no object, then $175,000 will buy you a beautiful spotted Ashera kitten, hand delivered to your door. Lifestyle Pets also offers a $375 monthly payment plan which I imagine will probably outlive the cat. After reading all about this rare and beautiful hybrid cat, I was persuaded to put one in my shopping cart provided on the website but ...





on second thought I decided to spring for three. After all, the more the merrier!

ASHERA EXOTIC CAT is considered one of the rarest domestic cat available today. A proprietary blend of the exotic bloodlines of the African Serval and the Asian Leopard Cat subsequently crossed with a rare domestic cat, the ASHERA grows up to 30 pounds (14 kg).

The Snow Ashera is a rare version of the standard Ashera and differs in that the background color is white instead of the brown caramel seen in the standard cat. The result is a striking animal that resembles the famed white tigers. The Royal Ashera is rarer still, with less than four kittens produced each year. The Royal Ashera has a cream background but uniquely, the spots and stripes are tiger orange, instead of black. I wish...I wish...

I saw this adorable cottage over at ReModelista and fell in love with it. A tidy 1000 square feet of breezy island bliss make up this sweet Victorian Carpenter Gothic house on Martha’s Vineyard - probably over a hundred years old and still alot of it original! It was recently given a facelift by Hutker Architects who, I think, did a fab job keeping all the cottage charm intact! Don't you?

I think Moxie Matilda would think it was the cats meow too!
