kids :: the drivers test

Yikes! Libs takes her drivers test today! One more step towards independence for my little girl. We have been practicing and practicing and my hair still stands on end when she's at the wheel. Don't get me wrong - she is a good driver - but no matter how I stress caution, patience, and DRIVE SLOWER, those words of advice don't seem to seep into that teenage brain of hers. Oh well...I guess we have to cut the apron strings sooner or later ... just not now ??? :(

I do hope she passes the drivers test today - but not using this technique for parallel parking!

Maxwell Smart had one, Shaq had one, so why can't we have one? We can. What is it? A shoe phone. What started out as just a prop for a church camp drama presentation that had a "Get Smart" theme, has mushroomed into a popular "make it yourself" project for DIY geeks, since 32 year old Australian inventor, Paul Gardner-Stephen posted instructions on how to make it online. In a world filled with IPhones ,blackberries and blue tooth technology, a primitive novelty like Maxwell Smart's shoe phone may seem out of place, but the inventor emphasizes that it has it's practical applications too, like helping the elderly.Gardner-Stephen says the shoes could hold sensors to detect if a wearer falls, making them particularly useful in nursing homes and aging-care facilities.

Loving this "lightpot" from designers Kfir Schwalb and Orit Magia of Studio Shulab . It uses eco friendly, energy saving LED lighting to grow plants, herbs - any pot adaptable vegetation anywhere in the house. And no matter what kind of lighting conditions you have too because it provides the light. I'd like a few of these around the house filled with kitchen herbs. Let there be light... AND pleasant aromas wafting through the air!

iphone:: paint it!

I haven't tried my hand at painting on the IPhone yet but after seeing this cool art I will definitely start now. Remiscent of that old kindergarten activity, finger painting, (which I loved btw!) the BRUSHES app for IPhone and ipod touch allows you to turn your photos into very cool paintings. Poppy Petunia loves to be carried so I think she might be up for this interesting pet carrier! If you love walking or running but taking your tiny dog along proves to be a hassle, then take him along in this cool messenger bag. The comfort factor might be an issue though - that pooch sure doesn't look comfortable and how annoying is it to have 8 pounds of fluff on your hip?
