It looks great and when you need an extra bed - it flips out - and right back in with ease. Lucyau has some stylish solutions for storage and some great multifunctional furniture that's a little different then the conventional stuff. I love this idea! How JUST COOL!

furniture :: the hot seat

Recycled plumbing turns into funky furniture over at Van Thiel and Co., an antique slash curiosity shop in Toronto. This is the Radiator-Chair - Pricey indeed at $1,490, and just as uncomfortable I'm sure. It's more of a sculpture than something I'd want to sit on.

It's got a cool companion though - “The Odd Laundry Room End Table,” pictured below, cost $1,200, that I think might look JUST COOL in my house.

Oliver Schick combines a comfy reading spot with good lighting in the ILLUPILLOW. It's integrated and adjustable one watt lamp is a LUXEON LED with 1.5 volt rechargeable batteries, promising hours of uninterrupted illumination. I love this award winning seating called Confluences by Philippe Nigro for Ligne Roset. Colorful, a bit eccentric in design and lookin' cozy!

Introduced at the 2009 ICFF, each component of Confluences seating combines varying heights, depths and angles to create a variety of seating layouts in an unconventional way. Just like a puzzle, the colorful non-symetrical pieces can be pieced together to form two, three or four seater sofas with a chaise option. Another plus? The covers are completely removable and are offered in a variety of fabrics and colors. I like that! This JUST COOL design was recoginized as a Red Dot Best of the Best distinction and received "A Young Design Award", awarded to designers under 35, at the Milan Furniture Fair

Hi cool industrial furniture is welded from salvaged auto body parts, then clear-coated to preserve the oxidation and rust.

He also creates bed frames, desks and armoires from the old parts but I think these tables are the jewels of his collection. They're JUST COOL!

furniture :: finding the right bed

I'm on the hunt for a new mattress. But not just any mattress. It has to be a custom order because it's for the antique three quarter bed in my guest room. Three quarter is tough to find because it was a common size in the old days and companies no longer make it. I don't know why either because I really like this size. For a single sleeping person it's just perfect! Wider then a single bed, so you don't fall off and narrower then a full size (double) bed so you don't get lost in the middle. So I've been searching the internet for this special sized mattress and wouldn't you know I cannot find one! Instead I came across this great website called Time4Sleep, that has a HUMUNGOUS selection of beds and mattresses. From Wooden Beds and Rattan Beds to Metal Beds and every type of bed in between, they have something for everyone. And the good thing is their beds and mattresses are priced at up to 45% off retail! Hmmm...perhaps instead of getting a 3/4 mattress, I should just get a standard full size bed for the guest room. This website, Time4sleep, has quite a few I liked! Their French Style Beds have two I like in particular, The Marseille bed and the French Rattan. They both have that touch of timeless elegance that I like and would look perfect in the guest room! Then there were the upholstered and the leather beds. Now I'm undecided...so much to choose from! Check out the website - which beds are your favs??

Spring, where are you?! Just when I thought there was hope for some green and Spring, it snowed today. Then I happened across this cool (and I mean cool) furniture and snow doesn't seem so bad. Especially when you make furniture with it. Introducing Ice & Snow Furniture Raised From Lake Mendota...

This icy furniture was made by sustainable Artist/Designer Hongtao Zhou, a University of Wisconsin-Madison art student, who created it on and from frozen Lake Mendota near the UW-Madison Memorial Union Terrace shoreline. Visitors partake in the fun stopping to take pictures, eat ice cream in snow bowls and try out the cold ice chairs. It makes what seems like an unbearably long winter seem a little JUST COOL!

I'm in the blue zone. I've been painting everything - shelves,cupboards,chairs and baskets a luscious shade of blue that I mixed up from a bunch of old cans of paint found in the pantry. Blue really brightens up the old house! Hmmm...who will be my next victim ?

The Swingers Chair by designer Jaebeom Jeong plays on the idea that while two strangers sit on it and may never meet each other face to face they are dependent on each other's actions to sit down and get up. I'd like to see two strangers sitting on this funky chair. How would they react?

They don't call the DS 600 sofa "Slinky" for nothing. It's millipede-ish  good looks function just like our classic childhood toy, the Slinky. But don't try "walking" it down the stairs. 

The Swiss-based design house de Sede came up with this slithering yet comfy design and describes it  as “a multifunctional element range.” A nifty notion to zip any number of it's sections together , making up an endless variety of segmented configurations of virtually any length, creating seating groups that will conform to any space -

In collaboration with Alistair Willmott , Stephen Reed created Wordplay, this cool beech veneer settee complete with graphic fabric letter pillows at Bloomberg Offices, London. The interactive seating installation provides a short break area for employees. Seating that is  JUST COOL!

Seating design that is JUST COOL! Strictly Design introduces it's shellfish duo in two very contemporary designs "Lobster" and "Shelly". Comfort and beauty combine to make these two a winning combination.

Lobster and Shelley are produced in Denmark in materials carefully chosen to match the requirements of the design, the function, and the construction.The shell is laminated, bent wood with a walnut veneer at the back. Inside the shell is Pantera foam, very durable and one of the least damaging foams to the environment.The swivel base is chrome-plated steel. The fabrics are high quality leather and fabrics.

Seth Roland, a designer and producer of custom furniture located in Washington state, came up with this clever design for a table. The Sprout has legs that look like sprouts and that can be placed in any configuration beneath the glass top to suit your fancy. It's eco friendly too - crafted from natural stone and sustainably harvested hardwoods and  uses a small amount of minimally processed materials with very little waste.

The look is JUST COOL!
